James Walter Kern

James Walter Kern, 78, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 in Gulfport.

Jim was born in Buffalo, NY on November 4, 1945 to James and Helen Pembrock Kern.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim is survived by his much-adored wife of 35 years, Linda VanOrsdale Kern. He is also survived by his cherished children, Jennifer Meidenbauer and Marc Kern; two sisters, Ellyn Ernst and Florence Kern; and one brother, Robert Kern. In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends and relatives including Robert and Michele VanOrsdale.

Jim was employed as an engineer throughout his varied career holding patents for surgical needles and heat devices. He was an aerospace engineering manager and international gaming designer and manufacturer.

He was a member of the Hook, Line and Drinkers fishing club and a thirty-year member of the ELKS. He was an avid fisherman who loved the water. He enjoyed boating, golfing and early retirements by traveling in motorhomes throughout the country for many years.

Jim was a bright, dynamic force who was inspiring, always learning, and caring. He lived each day to its fullest and made sure those around him did also. He will be dearly missed.
