James Barrow Scull, age 73, of Gulfport, Mississippi passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Jim was a longtime resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Jim was born June 12, 1951, at Travis Air Force Base in California. He graduated from Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a member of Redeemer Baptist Church Gulfport.
Jim worked in various engineering departments including Ingalls, Gulf Coast Shipyard Group, Halter Marine, Trinity Yachts, Shell Oil Company, and Paceco.
Jim’s love of music started in elementary school and he met the love of his life, Vickie, in high school band. He played the clarinet in various churches and played clarinet and saxophone in the Gulf Coast Big Band and the Coast Community Band. He also played with groups in local musical productions and Christmas programs.
Jim’s love of cars began with the rebuilding of a 1930 Ford Model A, then a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle, and a 1972 MGB among others. He really enjoyed driving his Jeep on mountain trails. Another treasured vehicle was his Harley Davidson, a souvenir from his favorite vacation spot in Tennessee. Jim had a zest for life and serving God. He was an amazing person and will be missed by all who knew him.
Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Virginia B. Scull.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Vickie; daughter, Holly Allemand, her husband Chad, and his grandson Caleb Scull. He is also survived by his sister, Stephanie Dearmy and her husband Michael. Jim enjoyed close relationships with his brothers-in-law, Dennis McCall and George McCall, his wife Betsy, and their children Steven McCall and Mikki McCall.
