Lt. Col. James T. Carter, Sr., U. S. Army Retired, 87, of Biloxi, MS, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Biloxi.
Lt. Col. Carter was born in Christney, Indiana and had been a resident of the coast since 1970. As a veteran of WW II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, other medals and prestigious awards.
Lt. Col. Carter was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marie Louise Boney Carter, a son, Steven Carter;and his parents, Dewey and Bethel Bufkin Carter. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Terry) Creel; two sons, James T. Carter, Jr. and David L. (Dorothy) Carter; sister, Doris (Grover) Sibrel; four grandchildren, Terry Creel, Jr., Christine Creel, Jeffrey Creel and Michael (Angie) Creel; two great grandchildren, Gabrielle and Madeline; a niece and nephew.
Visitation is Tuesday, March 17, 2009, from 5 until 8 p.m., recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m., at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Seelos Catholic Church where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi City Cemetery with full military honors.
