Jan Cook

Jan Marie (Barnes) Cook, 73, of Biloxi, MS gained her eternal angel wings on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Jan was of Catholic faith. She was born in Biloxi, MS on April 20, 1949 to Charles and Estelle Barnes. Jan was a graduate of Biloxi High School Class of 1967 and a Biloxi High Debutant from 1963-1967. She married her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Cook in 1969 and they had two daughters, Kelly and Stacey. Jan was a devoted wife, mother, maw-maw, aunt and sister. She was a housewife for many years to raise her girls until they were school age. Jan held a few jobs throughout the years once her girls school age. She worked as a substitute teacher for many years at D’Iberville Elementary, was a secretary for many years at Knight Abbey Commercial Printing and worked for a brief time for Lacey’s Pest Control until she quit working to take care of her elderly father full-time. After her father passed away at the age of 92, she helped take care of several grandchildren until they were old enough to attend pre-school. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy! She never missed a school program, awards ceremony, dance recital, football game, baseball game or anything else they were involved in. Some of her favorite things to do were shopping, cooking, listening to country music, celebrating the holidays and anything that involved her children or grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Estelle Barnes.

Jan is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Ronnie Cook; her daughters, Kelly (Andrew) Marie and Stacey (Mario) Sapet; her grandchildren, Ashlei (Vaughn) Johnson, Nicole (Curtis) Ladnier, Andrew Marie and Landon Sapet; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Kennedy, Addison (Nicole), Bowie Kate and Gavin (Ashlei); and her brother, Charlie (Mickey) Barnes; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dr. McClendon’s office for always taking good care of her throughout her illness as well as Tracy Ladner and her staff at Kare- In- Home Hospice for their excellent care they provided this past week.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 6:00 pm at South Beach Hotel, 3rd floor terrace.
