Jane Sheely Hamilton died peacefully in her home on March 21, 2017 in Ocean Springs, Ms., at the age of 80.
Jane is survived by her children Clarence “Bo” Albert Hamilton, III, Eleanor “Cissy” (Mark) Hamilton Hare; her brothers Peter Sheely, Wallace (Janet) Sheely, Ben Sheely, Victor (Emily) Sheely, granddaughter Sabyn (Jacob) Hamilton Ladnier and great granddaughter Lyrin Kane Ladnier. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Albert Hamilton, Jr. of Ocean Springs, and her parents, Dr. & Mrs. E.E. Sheely of Gulfport.
Jane was born in 1937 in Gulfport, Ms. to Dr. E.E. Sheely and Victoria Adams Sheely. She graduated from Gulfport High School in 1955 and attended Mississippi State College for Women (the “W”). She married Clarence A. Hamilton, Jr. in 1960, after meeting on a blind date. They worked together at Hamilton Inc. Marine Surveyors until 2009.
Jane was a devoted Christian; loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand-mother, great-grandmother and faithful friend.
Along with other young women she helped charter Biloxi-Ocean Springs Jr. Auxiliary. She served as president and volunteered countless hours working with the children of the area. Jane and Clarence were instrumental in the organization of Treasure Oaks Country Club. She was a gifted athlete, and excelled at tennis since high school. She was an avid player and fan. After giving up tennis to injury, her favorite exercise was walking the beach. She enjoyed traveling with the gang, and I’m sure Destin will never be the same. She was an active member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church.
She will be sorely missed by her bridge friends, some of whom she had played with for over 50 years.
Services are scheduled for Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at St John’s Episcopal Church, with visitation in the parish hall an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 705 Rayburn Ave, Ocean Springs, Ms. 39564 or the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, 246 Dolan Ave, Gulfport, Ms. 39507. The family would like to thank Deaconess Home Health and Deaconess Hospice (Angela, Mary, and Susan) for the care they provide for Jane. Thank you to Ms. Ida, Sally and Sheba for your tireless commitment to Momma and for keeping her laughing. You all are loved dearly. View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com
