Janis "Jan" Ilean Russell

Janis S. "Jan" Russell, age 79, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Jan was a resident of Ocean Springs since 1984. She had been active in various organizations on the Gulf Coast for many years. Jan was very devoted to her family and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Shields and John Russell, sister, Jeanette Holley Povey and a brother, Glen Fowler. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Michael (Laurie) Shields and Carlton Jernigan, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. On Saturday, December 17, there will be a 2:00 pm graveside service in Crestlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to King Daughters and Sons, 1809 Government St., Ocean Springs, MS 39564. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
