Jean Elizabeth Gibson Sneed

Our beloved wife, mother grandmother and friend, Jean Elizabeth Gibson Sneed finally got to go home on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The only child of John Tarpley Gibson and Lucille Fortson Gibson was born on May 27, 1922 in Homer, Louisiana. She graduated from Centenary College with a BA in Education and a Teacher’s certificate. She married the love of her life on December 26, 1954 in the Homer Methodist Church, her reason being was that Christmas is exciting but the next day there is nothing to do. She had been a resident of Long Beach since 1959 and was a 50 year plus active member of the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach. She was known for her laughter, love of family and friends and devotion to all. She will be missed greatly by her lovingly devoted husband, Harry Prentiss Sneed, Jr; son, JohnO’Beirne Sneed of Long Beach; her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Sneed Wethern and Michael John Wethern of Mandeville, LA; and the two people she adored most, her granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Wethern and Merideth Chanler Wethern. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Shirley Sneed Oblinger; and sibling-like cousins, Elizabeth Ann Sanders Easley of Columbus, NC and Clayton and Evelyn Sanders of Boone, NC; along with other treasured relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, 208 Pine Street, Long Beach, MS 39560 or to one’s preferred charity. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Long Beach where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
