Jean Alden Holcombe Quave

Jean Alden Holcombe Quave, 87, of Gulfport, MS passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at her son’s home in Biloxi.

Jean was born on May 16, 1935 in Lauderdale County, MS to Ray Miller Holcombe, Sr. and Winnie Grantham Holcombe. She graduated from Meridian High School. Jean was a homemaker, as well as a bookkeeper for Quave’s Hardware. She enjoyed dancing, line dancing with her Woolmarket Line Dancing Group, Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Jean especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always having a baby in her arms and traveling with her brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Leslie John Quave, Jr.; her parents, Ray Miller Holcombe, Sr. and Winnie Grantham Holcombe; and her brothers, Jesse Holcombe, Fred Holcombe and Donald Holcombe. 

Jean’s survivors include her children, Gregory (Cindy) Quave of Biloxi, Bradley (Beth) Quave of Palm Bay, FL and Rene’ (George) Cates of Gulfport; her grandchildren, Joey (Heather) Cates of St. Martin, Jason (Jackie) Cates of St. Martin, Brianna (Gage) Marro of Gulfport, Kevin (Taylor) Quave of Woolmarket, Russell (Kristian) Quave of Mobile, AL, Jenneil Athorne of Palm Bay, FL, Brittany (Spencer) Ross of Melbourne, FL and Ellyssa Quave of Palm Bay, FL; 18 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Bessie Kent of Collinsville, MS, Ray (Becky) Holcombe of Collinsville, MS and Sue (Ed) Mott of Celina, TX.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Saad Hospice and especially Sarah and Vickie for being a special part of their family during such a difficult time.

Funeral Services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Friends may visit from 12:00 pm until service time. Interment will follow at Quave Cemetery, 3315 W Racetrack Road, D’Iberville, MS 39540.
