Mrs. Jeane Marie Mathieu Joseph Hovis, age 65, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Monday, December 28, 2009, in Pascagoula. Jeane was born on July 17, 1944 in Greensburg, Indiana, and was a published poet and a short story writer. She was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. She also attended two United Methodist churches in Ocean Springs. Jeane was a Lady of a Knight, 3rd Degree Knight, Alvin L. Joseph, who was a charter member of the Monsignor Gregory Kennedy of St. Elizabeth Seton. She also helped her husband in the prison ministry for a short time. Jeane was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Louis Joseph, son, Jerry DaWayne McVeay, parents, Jerome W. Mathieu and Nancy Peters Mathieu, brothers, Sam Gildea, Calvin Mathieu and Eugene Gildea, sister, Teresa Mathieu. Survivors include her husband, Duane Andrew Hovis, stepmother, Betty Jane Mathieu, sister-in-law, Nora Gildea, brothers, Mike (Connie) Gildea, Joseph (Dawn) Gildea and Daniel Mathieu, sisters, Brenda Faye Patrick and Rose Marie Hudson, all of Ocean Springs, MS., Annie (George) Ryan of Gautier, Teresa (James) Blair and Gloria (Kevin) Amacker, all of Ocean Springs, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, from 6 PM - 8 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Thursday, December 31, 2009, there will be a 1 PM chapel service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
