Jeanette Oberil Bates

Mrs. Jeanette "Miss Jet" Bates, age 92 and a resident of Woolmarket for over 40 years, died Monday, January 12, 2009. She was born "a country girl" to Court and Estella Young and had nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Richard; daughter, June; an infant sister, Christine; brothers, Warren, Maurice, Les and Willard; and sisters, Alice and Geneva. She is survived by her sons, Donald and his wife, Ona, of Wichita, KS, and Gary of Ocean Springs; grandsons, Jordan of Biloxi, Bradley of New York City, Karen of Bonner Springs, KS, and Donna of Shanee Mission, KS; four great grandchildren and many friends and neighbors of many years whom she loved as dearly as her own. Although suffering many personal hardships during her life, she had a unique way of dealing with each hardship, taking each day as special and enjoying the rest of her life. She was a military wife, mother and homemaker all her adult life and traveled the world with her husband after his retirement. She loved everyone and the beauty of natural things, the simple life, and took great pride in her yard and garden. As requested by Jeannette, there will only be a private memorial service of the immediate family, followed by a scattering of her ashes in the Back Bay of Biloxi. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements. View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com.
