Je’Nell Danielson Blocher, age 89, of Ocean Springs, MS, departed this life on February 28, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen Ellis Schwartz and Hubert Danielson, her husband, Charles H. (Chuck) Blocher, her son, Charles H. Blocher III, and great-grandson, Chad Cody Blocher.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen “Missy” (Dave Smith) Cote’, Je’Nell Blocher (Mike) Blum, and her bonus daughter Nancy (Gary) Tucker; grandchildren Chad (Angie) Blocher, Kristi (Gilbert) Moreno, Sterling Cote’, Brandelyn (Pierre) Topeze, Delaney Gustafson, Carli Gustafson, Davis Gustafson, Michael Blum, Jr., and four great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Gulfport High School and Gulf Park College. Always a beauty, she proudly served as Miss Gulfport and Miss Hospitality in 1950.
Je’Nell was very active in her community, serving as a volunteer, member, and/or officer in the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Ocean Springs Hospital Auxiliary, Gulf Coast Symphony Guild, Gulfport Historical Society, Beach Garden Society, Friendship Civic Club, St. Luke’s, Tuesday morning coffee group, and the USO.
She enjoyed photography, art, and nature. Her husband, Chuck, was well known as Santa, and she enjoyed her role as his coordinator and photographer. They brought so much joy to others by sharing themselves.
During the course of a month, Je’Nell walked the entire Gulf Coast (80 miles roundtrip) for her 80th and 82nd birthdays to raise donations and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. She was an inspiration to all lucky enough to know her.
Je’Nell was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and Christian. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Light for their tender assistance, and also extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Karen Crews - words cannot express our appreciation for her compassionate care.
For anyone preferring a donation in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs or the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
The visitation will be held on March 4, 2022 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, with the service following at 12:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Cemetery in Biloxi. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs is honored to serve the family of Je’Nell Blocher.
