Jenny Wheat Goekler, 66, of Perkinston died on Saturday, June 23, 2007. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a retired medical transcriptionist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claiborne and June Cliburn Wheat. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, John Goekler of Perkinson; children, Johnny Goekler of Perkinston, Billy Goekler and his wife, Lori of Lizana; Lari Lee and her husband, Tony of Gulfport, Kelly Dukes and her husband, Jason of Gulfport; grandchildren, Jonathan Goekler, Veronica Goekler, Teresa Goekler, Nicholas Goekler, Shannon Bailey, Jennifer Goekler, Patrick Lee, Jonathan Lee and Ethan Dukes; great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Brewer and another expected; brothers, Benny Wheat and his wife, Hilda, Timothy Wheat and his wife, Tammy; sisters, Tommie Patterson and her husband, Fred, and Cherry Wheat; in-laws, Raymond and Hazel Goekler of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law, Bob Goekler and his wife, Billie of Porum, OK; sister-in-law, Kay Silva and her husband, Ed of Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jenny took great joy in spending time with her family and especially her sisters and her grandchildren whom thought she was their playmate. She enjoyed photography and was rarely seen without her camera. She chronicled many family moments and events with friends. She always made sure to share these photos. She was past worthy matron of Perkinston Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. Jenny loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. She was able to pick up and play any musical instrument. She loved birds and the smell of rain. Her favorite gifts were tools and she spent lots of time in her shop making everything from furniture to toys for her grandchildren. She was a terrific handywoman and never hesitated to tackle any fix it job. She was a good listener and comforter to all who met her. She was strong in her faith in God and attended New Covenant Church in Lizana. Her life and unselfishness was an example to all who knew her. We love her dearly and will miss her hugs and beautiful smile. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
