Jessie Hill Fountain, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 25, 2016.
Jessie was a lifelong resident of Biloxi, MS and retired to Pensacola, FL in 2002. Her heart was always in Biloxi and she enjoyed many visits back home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Sheldon James Fountain, Sr.; her parents, Turner Washington Hill and Elizabeth Rachuba Hill; brothers, David Rufus Hill, August John Hill and Frances Jefferson Hill; and sisters, Ruth Mary Hill Galle and Sedonia Rita Hill Moore.
She is survived by her children, Sheldon James Fountain, Jr. “Jimmy” and wife, Terry, Baton Rouge, LA, David John Fountain “Davey” and wife Vickie, Gonzales, LA, Kathi Anne Fountain Ortega and husband Mike, Gulf Breeze, FL and Cynthia Lynn Fountain Coursen “Cindy” and husband Bob, Pensacola, FL.; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jessie was a LPN Nurse at Howard Memorial and owner of S & J Big Ridge Video Store in D’Iberville, MS. She enjoyed her retirement years and was a devoted wife to Sheldon. She enjoyed spending time traveling with her family, playing the penny slot machines, rooting for the Saint’s every Sunday and sharing her words of wisdom and wit with her many friends and family about her life. She was a gardener, a musician, and loved to sing and dance. She bowled in leagues until her health would no longer permit it and served on the Gulf Coast Women’s Bowling Association on the Board of Directors for 18 years and participated in 25 State Tournaments and 16 National Tournaments. She was inducted into the local Mississippi Gulf Coast Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2002. She was an accomplished seamstress and made all the Board of Directors red jackets and numerous team shirts. She had a customized sewing home business for many years and her artistic nature shown through her designs. She was a member of the Fleur de Lis Society, Krewe of Harlequins, D’Iberville Community Club, and was Queen of the Krewe of D’La Bay Mardi Gras Ball and enjoyed Mardi Gras festivities every year with the family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and sang in the choir. She also sang solos when she was a member in her younger years at St. John’s Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, from 6 pm until 8 pm, with Rosary at 6:30 pm at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, in Biloxi, MS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am, where friends may visit one hour before service time on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville, MS. Interment will follow in Fountain Family Cemetery in D’Iberville, MS. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
