Mrs. Jewel Blake Elder, 94, of Kingwood, TX, and formerly of Biloxi, passed into the Lord’s loving arms on Mothers’ Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Biloxi, spending her last ten years in Kingwood with her loving daughter’s Texas family. Mrs. Elder was a member of Nativity parish, while in Biloxi, and more recently, of St. Martha parish in Kingwood. She is a graduate of Biloxi High School. Mrs. Elder was a homemaker for most of her life, and later worked as the cashier for over 25 years at McElroy’s Harbor House in Biloxi, where she was affectionately known as Mrs. Jewel to all who dined and worked there. She was a member of Sunkist Country Club, and proudly told everyone of her hole in one on number 11, years ago. She belonged to several carnival associations in her early years, among them were Young Matrons and Les Femmes.
Mrs. Elder is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Roy L. “Pete” Elder; her parents, Eddie and Sarah Blake; her brothers, Edwin Blake, and Charles Blake, and her sister, Verna Jane.
She is survived by daughters, Carol (Ken) Sproles of Kingwood, TX, and Susan (Joey) Jurich of Ocean Springs, MS, sons Roy L. “Peteroy” (Debbie) Elder of Scottsdale, AZ, and Jeff (Cindy) Elder of Biloxi, MS; brothers Louis Blake of San Diego, CA, and Bobby Blake of Jackson, MS, and sister Mary Kelley of Pascagoula, MS; grandchildren Kim (Doug) Hansen, Scotty (Sue) Jurich, Bridgette Mattina Moncur, Sheree (Anthony) Trosclair, Joe Mattina, Jeffrey Elder, Blake Elder and Kaylee Elder; and great-grandchildren Kristy (Jeremy) Stepp, Mikey Hill, Bailey Trosclair, Wyatt Hansen, Trey Trosclair and Kinney Lynn Jurich.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in Biloxi. Burial will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
