Jo Ann Jordan

Jo Ann Jordan, 67, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed gently into the hands of the Lord with friends and family at her side on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, after battling a long illness. Jo Ann was born on October 7, 1938 in Braggadocio, MO to Euell Featherston and Lucy Holman Featherston and there enjoyed the childhood she later described in stories to her grandchildren. She married her high school sweetheart and lifelong best friend, Nathan Jordan on July 12, 1959. They made their life together traveling while Nathan was in the Air Force everywhere from Texas to Turkey. This love for adventure and the excitement of new places led to many memorable vacations she shared with her loved ones. Survivors include her husband, Nathan Jordan; son-in-laws, and daughters Paul and Tanya McKelvey of Houston, TX, and Steve and Terri Nunenmacher of Vancleave, MS. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Brent and Christopher McKelvey of Houston, TX, and Katie and Elizabeth Hurt, as well as Richard and Mary Beth Nunenmacher, all of Vancleave, MS. She is also survived by her sister, Limbouth Gurley of Caruthersville, MO and many other cousins, nieces, and extended family who cared for her very much. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Harry Featherston, as well as her mother-in-law and father-in-law, James R. and Audrey Jordan of Caruthersville, MO. For years, Jo Ann worked bookkeeping at Otasco and Republic Finance. Her co-workers and customers became her life-long friends and were a very special part of her life. Jo Ann also volunteered at Kings' Daughters and Sons on Government Street in Ocean Springs with her dear friends who formed a sisterhood that celebrated at lunches together all over town. Giving back to her community and helping those less fortunate was just another testament to Jo Ann's life. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to The Kings' Daughters and Sons at 1809 Government Street, Ocean Springs, MS or any charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs with Reverend Kelly Pope officiating. The family would like to thank to no end, Liz Pace for her undying friendship and love. Also included in thanks are Reverend Kelly Pope, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ocean Springs Hospital emergency room physicians and nurses, Dr. Taylor and his nurse, Denise, the Hospice of Light including Patsy Peterson R.N., and Emily Watts for her gift of music at the service. The family would like to express their gratitude to the many family and friends that brightened her days with calls and visits and to those keeping the family in their prayers.
