Joan Ann Buchanan

Our dear mother, Joan Ann Murray-Buchanan, sadly passed away on March 1, at the age of 92 surrounded by family at her home. Joan was married for 74 years to William John Buchanan Jr. on August 8, 1949 who preceded her in passing on August 19, 2005. She was a wonderful mother that was always there when the family needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Vancleave, MS and Scranton - Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. 

 She was born in Plymouth, PA on November 12, 1930 and was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Mary Penxa-Murray; her brothers, John ‘Jack’ and William Francis; and her sisters, Margaret Ann Murray-Haefele, Irene Gertrude Murray-Carroll, Irma L Murray-Thomas., Anne T. Murray-Madrack,  Kathleen Ann Murray-Garvey, and Elizabeth M. Murray-Chunca. 

 She is survived by her children, Ruth Ann Howell, Patricia May Ferguson, Janice  Lynn Robinson, and William John Buchanan; her grandchildren, Christopher Robinson, Ashley Robinson, Eric Robinson,  Catherine Howell, Brandon Ferguson, Tommy Ferguson, June Shivers, William  John Buchanan V, Gavin James Buchanan, and Liam Sean Buchanan; and her great-grandchildren, Callie Robinson, Carter Robinson, Emelia Robinson,  Parker Robinson, Gavin Murphy, Grant Murphy, Kennedy Cannon, Landen  Cannon, Kaitlyn Shivers, Morgan Shivers, Scout Wallace, Ava and Payton Ferguson, and Jayce and Raelynn Ferguson. 

 She had the ability to laugh no matter what the situation and passed that ability off to her children. Her most memorable song she sang to everyone was “Dear Old Donegal.” She had the love of an Irish Mother and an Irish disposition to go along with that love. She will be sorely missed and has now joined “The Sisters” in heaven.  

 There will be a small ceremony at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs, MS on Friday, March 10, 2023 3pm with a service to follow at 4pm. Later her family will take her home to Pennsylvania for a Celebration of Life Ceremony on July 8th, 2023 at Quarry Hill Farm at the Moose House for all relatives and friends that can come.
