Mr. Joe Cecil Morton, age 76, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Friday, November 18, 2005, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Morton was a longtime resident. He was a gospel music promoter and the music director at the First Baptist Church of Windsor Park. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years and also retired from Tele-dyne Allvac in Monroe, N.C. Mr. Morton was a charter member of the Joppa Shrine Temple and the Eastern Star. He also taught math and electronics at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annette and Samp Morton, and brothers, James Morton, Mitchell Morton and Bob Morton.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Freda Morton of Ocean Springs, two sons, Michael and wife, Tammey, of Charlotte, N.C. and David and wife, Robin, of D'Iberville, MS., seven sisters, Belmer Ingram, Ethel Trull, Sadie Bryant, Lucy Morton, Betty Morgan, Vicky Almond, and Dianne Cowls, all of Albermarle, N.C., and a brother, Lewis Morton of Charlotte, N.C., three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 20, 2005, from 4-6 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Monday, November 21, 2005, there will be a 10 AM church service, at Windsor Park Baptist Church in Ocean Springs. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
