Joe E. (Jay) Jackson left this earth on January 16, 2021. Joe was born in Finley, TN to Lester Wiley and Maggie Mozell (Hudson) Jackson. He was preceded in death by both parents and a stepfather, Ben Pugh. The last son of a large country family, Joe was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters: Blanche (Dood) Pride, James Wiley, Louise Chaffin, JC, Bertha Folger, Mary Pride, Dorothy Purdue, Rachel Partain, and Faye Phillips. The last Jackson sibling, Huston, passed away Sunday morning, January 17, 2021.
Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet Louise (Sturonas). They were high school sweethearts. He is also survived by 3 children: Susan (Robert Barrett), Jeff and Christine (Matt Phillips). Joe has 7 grandchildren who adore him: Dustan Jackson, R. Max Barrett, Jr, Lauren Jackson, Sydney Jackson, Joe Jackson, Jackson Phillips and Ethan Phillips. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren. They will miss their Poppa dearly.
When Joe was a young man with a wife and child, he left Tennessee for the wild town of Las Vegas, NV. Joe missed the Southern way of life he had left back in Tennessee and was always on the lookout for a way to return. When Mississippi decided to bring in the casino business, he found a way to combine his career and his longing to return home. After leaving the casino business, Joe, along with brother-in law John Voss opened up a golf cart shop, Gulf Coast Carts & More in 1999.
Joe loved John Wayne, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, old Westerns and golf and most especially his family. Those who were fortunate enough to know were greatly blessed.
