John Arthur Wenzel, 60, of Gulfport died
Monday, February 14, 2005 in Gulfport. Mr. Wenzel
was born in Olean, NY and had been a resident of
Gulfport for 31 years. Mr. Wenzel served in the
United States Navy SeaBees and retired in 1992
after over 27 years of service. He was a graduate
of William Carey College and the University of
Southern Mississippi and earned two master degrees.
He was also a retired instructor from Mississippi
Gulf Coast Community College, both the Jackson
County Campus and Jefferson Davis Campus, and also
the Harrison County Vocational-Technical Campus.
Mr. Wenzel was a member of the American Legion,
V.F.W., Fleet Reserve, Ocean Springs Elks Lodge
#2501, and a former member of the Orange Grove
Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife Linda Wenzel of
Gulfport, 2 daughters Patty Melton & her husband,
Dave of Gulfport, Tammy Rester & her husband,
Steven of Hattiesburg, 1 son, Bill Wenzel & his
wife, Jennifer of Panama City, FL, his mother, Anna
Mae Wenzel of Largo, FL, 3 grandchildren, Jessica
Melton, Lora Rester, and Julia Wenzel.
The funeral service, along with an Elks Memorial
Service, will be Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at
6:00 P.M. at the Orange Grove Chapel of Bradford-
O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, where friends
may visit beginning at 3:00 P.M. A graveside
service with Military Honors, will be on Friday,
February 18, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the Biloxi
National Cemetery. The family prefers memorials be
