John E. Romeo

John E. Romeo, 80, of Biloxi, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Mr. Romeo was a lifelong resident of Biloxi. He was known by his friends as “The Biloxi Legend”. . He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and a Golden Glove Champion. He received the MSGR Geoffry O’Connell Football Award. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He was a retired Captain from Ingalls Fire Department and also worked for Biloxi Fire Department. He was the former operator of the Key Club, a member of the Biloxi Elks #606, the V.F.W, and the American Legion. He was a charter member and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and was a strong Pro-Life advocate for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ellen Cannette Romeo; a brother, Larry Romeo and a sister, Maria Sablich. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Dubaz Romeo; three daughters, Sandy Romeo Gaines, Debi Romeo Morgan, Cilya Romeo Carson (Shayne); one son, Jason Romeo(Kerri); one sister, Sylvia Stearn; four grandchildren, John, Leah, Katy, John-Paul; and four great grandchildren, Cilayne, Shayne II, Sydney-Rayne and Chayni-Grace. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m., where friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time. There will also be a Rosary prayer at the church at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Morning Star Pregnancy Center, 2204 24th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501 or to St. Vincent de Paul of Our Lady of Fatima, 2090 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS 39530.
