John E. Romeo, 80, of Biloxi, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
Mr. Romeo was a lifelong resident of Biloxi. He was known by his friends as “The Biloxi Legend”. . He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and a Golden Glove Champion. He received the MSGR Geoffry O’Connell Football Award. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He was a retired Captain from Ingalls Fire Department and also worked for Biloxi Fire Department. He was the former operator of the Key Club, a member of the Biloxi Elks #606, the V.F.W, and the American Legion. He was a charter member and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and was a strong Pro-Life advocate for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ellen Cannette Romeo; a brother, Larry Romeo and a sister, Maria Sablich.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Dubaz Romeo; three daughters, Sandy Romeo Gaines, Debi Romeo Morgan, Cilya Romeo Carson (Shayne); one son, Jason Romeo(Kerri); one sister, Sylvia Stearn; four grandchildren, John, Leah, Katy, John-Paul; and four great grandchildren, Cilayne, Shayne II, Sydney-Rayne and Chayni-Grace.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m., where friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time. There will also be a Rosary prayer at the church at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
