Born October 12, 1924 in New Augusta, MS, John C. “Jake” Fleming passed away June 16, 2015 in Biloxi, MS.
Jake served in the Navy in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Spear, a minesweeper in the Pacific. He was a lifelong trucker hauling crude oil to fresh flowers for over three decades and called Vancleave, MS his home for over forty years.
He cherished the times he spent with his family and adventures salmon fishing at Gold Beach in Oregon, riding the mail boat up the Rogue River, deep-sea fishing on the Gulf Coast, and taking the World War II honor flight.
Beloved by many, Jake is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bea; children, Linda Jenkins, Carole (Larry) Gavin, and Lee (Michael) Amador; stepchildren, Jim King, Jane (Louis) Ricci, and Carol King-Baer; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his parents, daughter, and 2 grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, June 20 from 1pm – 2pm, with a 2pm service at the Vancleave Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home (4901 Jim Ramsay Road, Vancleave). Burial will follow in the Ramsay Cemetery.
