Mr. John "Captain Joe" Ross, 94, of Biloxi, MS, died Monday, April 14, 2008, in Biloxi.
Mr. Ross was a native and lifelong resident of Biloxi. He was a commercial fisherman and former owner of the following shrimp boats: "Mary Margaret", "Ethelyn R", "Captain Joe" Chyanne Chief", and "Col. O'Keefe". He was involved with the Shrimping Commission and the Seafood Industry Museum.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his former wives, Ethlyn Senseny Ross, Lucille Nelson Ross, Ivy Baker Ross, Dot Domingues Ross and Sybil Ross. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Paisant of Scottsdale, AZ, Margaret Broussard of Ocean Springs, and Lucy Carter of Grand Bay, Al; two sons, Frank Ross of Lumberton, MS, and Joseph Ross of Gautier, MS, twenty grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer where friends may visit one hour before service time.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of services.
