John K. Elmer

John K. Elmer, 73, of Gulfport, MS, died Monday, June 13, 2011, in Gulfport. Mr. Elmer was born in New Orleans and had been a resident of Gulfport most of his life. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He served in the National Guard and was previously associated with his father at Elmer's Oxford Shop on 25th Avenue in Gulfport. He was lead singer and drummer for Johnnie Elmer And The Rockets, The Knight Riders, and The Sunshine Bugs. Mr. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emeline Elmer, and a daughter, Angela Elmer. He is survived by three daughters, Kelli Elmer Spiehler Giglione, Ashley Elmer Grogg and Sheila Elmer; two sons, Brent Elmer and John Elmer, III; and several grandchildren. Mr. Elmer was Brent's Rock and will be missed forever. There will not be a service as per Mr. Elmer's request. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th St., in Gulfort, is in charge of arrangements.
