John L Krohn

Mr. John L Krohn left this earth to be with his Savior on Friday, November 8, 2019. Born and raised in Ocean Springs to parents Mamie and Clifton Krohn on December 27, 1934, he was raised along with his brothers Robert Krohn and Rufus Krohn. He joined the military early in his life and went on to serve 23 years in the US Navy reaching the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer retiring in 1974. His military career sent him and his family all over the country. The early years were spent on ships along the West Coast but eventually they made it to the East Coast serving in Narragansett, RI, Great Lakes, Illinois, Jacksonville, FL, Virginia Beach, VA, Charleston, SC, Norfolk, VA, and a post in Rota, Spain. After retirement from the military, he went on to serve as Head of Food Service at KAFB for another 21 years and finally retiring for good in 1997. He loved all things nature. He cultivated an awesome blueberry orchard and shared freely with all who asked. He was a master grafter and enjoyed seeing the fruits of his labor. He also amassed quite an assortment of mounts from his many hunting and fishing expeditions across the country. He was quite proud of these and often showed them to visitors. Mr. Krohn was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Krohn. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Wanda Seymour Krohn; three daughters, Lisa Ekhlas and husband Fred, Teresa Lumpkin and husband Glenn and Mary Evelyn Smith and husband Bobby; six grandchildren, Ashley (Scotty) Campbell, Matthew (Jen) Ekhlas, Chris Ekhlas, Patrick (Hannah) Ekhlas, Katie (Phillip) Hardy and Hannah Smith; two great grandsons, Tate and Tuck Campbell and baby Fisher Hardy expected in February. He is also survived by his brother, Rufus (Lisa) Krohn and a host of nieces and nephews all who will miss him and his many stories shared over the years. He is a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he attends mass with his wife. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Friends may visit one-hour prior.
