John Leo McCurdy, III

Mr. John Leo McCurdy, III died at his home in Gulfport, MS on March 15, 2011. He was a kind and generous man with a keen sense of humor. John was born on August 29, 1926 and grew up in Memphis, TN and was a member of MENSA. During World War II he served in the Army Air Force and was training to be a fighter pilot when the war ended. While in service he was a featherweight boxer. John was a lover of nature and especially animals. He spent considerable time backpacking in the hills of TN. John shared his survival skills with the Boy Scouts of America and also volunteered for Hospice and the Crisis Center. Mr. McCurdy was preceeded in death by his parents Eva Beahr Cox and John Leo McCurdy, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Patricia and his daughter Deby (Bill) Klyce of Sardis, MS step-children; Robyn (Larry) Blavos, August (Fe) Schmitt III, Patricia (Mike) Kelly and their children; three half brothers; Bobby, Jimmy and Danny McCurdy; a cousin, Ruth Rook; and pets; Splenda and Max. John donated his body to science and requested gifts be given to the Humane Society, 2615 25th Ave Gulfport, MS. 39501. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
