Mr. John L. Gilbert, 93, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, Gulfport.
Mr. Gilbert, a native of Vicksburg, MS, had been a resident of Ocean Springs since 1971. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WW II. and Retired Commander of the U. S. Navy Reserve. He also retired as Trade Director from the Jackson County Port Authority and was a member of S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps of Retired Executives). Mr. Gilbert was a graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and a former instructor at Tulane University and the University of South Alabama. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Gilbert and a son, Eugene Phillip Gilbert. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Howerton and her husband, Hank, of Nashville, TN, Mary Gilbert Mang of Kenner, LA, and Kathy Hughes and her husband, Dean, of Hammond, LA; six sons, Gerald Gilbert and his wife, Barbara, of Diamondhead, John L. Gilbert, Jr. and his wife, Marsha, of New Orleans, LA, Andrew P. Gilbert and his wife, Dee, of LaPlace, LA, Mark S. Gilbert of Baton Rouge, LA, U. S. Navy Capt. Christpher G. Gilbert, and his wife, Linda, of Memphis, TN, and Paul G. Gilbert of Ocean Springs; eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
