John M. Turnage, S/Sgt U.S. Army Retired, age 79, of Biloxi, MS., died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in Biloxi.
Mr. Turnage was a native of Avery, MS., and had been a coast resident for the past 33 years. He retired as a S/Sgt. from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea, a member of V.F.W. Post #6731 in D'Iberville, and retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 15 years. Mr. Turnage was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Eddie Turnage and three brothers, Howard, James and Claude Turnage, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Allie M. Turnage of St. Martin, three daughters, Judith E. Gibson and husband, Patrick of Horn Lake, MS., Janet E. Weller and husband, Dave of Blacksburg, S.C., and Beverly A. Austin of St. Martin, two sons, Chris Turnage and wife Stacy of Ocean Springs and Milton Turnage of Florida, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 14, 2005, from 6-9 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Tuesday, March 15, 2005, there will be a 10 AM chapel service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
