John W. Pope born on May 20, 1936 in Bolivar County near Beulah, MS passed away on April 25, 2023.
He graduated from Skene Consolidated High School. He served six years in the US Navy. He worked for Hartford Steam Boilers for thirty years serving as chief Inspector in Detroit, MI and Baltimore, MD, and he retired in 1998. He also worked as Deputy Inspector for the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Branch of the MS State Department of Health. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gautier, MS. He was a member of the American Legion Post #165, Cleveland, MS.
John was preceded in death by his parents, WH Pope and Viola Bunch Pope; brothers, Floyd Pope, Lloyd Pope, Homer Pope, Garland Pope, Eugene McCoy, W.H. Pope, Jr., and Hubert Pope; and sister, Irene Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Pope of Ocean Springs, MS; daughter, Michelle Roman of Naples, FL; grandson, Jacob P. Roman of Naples, FL; stepson, Reese Howard, Jr. of Pensacola, Fl; brothers, Waymond McCoy and Roy Pope; and sister, Violet Corley of Shaw, MS; step grandsons, Justin Howard of Vail, AZ, and Keith Howard, Jr. of Duncan, OK; step granddaughters, Kristen Akers of Duncan, OK and Melissa Keller of San Jose, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude or First Baptist Church of Gautier would be appreciated.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
