Mr. John S. Luter, LCDR, Retired, age 94, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Thursday, February 16, 2006, in Ocean Springs. John was born in Jackson, TN., to Robert and Mary Luter, on October 27, 1911. He and his family moved to Carriere, MS., in 1926. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1938 with a B.S. degree in the School of Agriculture. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Navy Reserves and Civil Service in 1971. John has been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1972, living in both Long Beach and Ocean Springs. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, the American Legion, Joe Graham Post 119, and the V.F.W. of Indianola, MS. John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Luter, brother, Robert Luter, sister, Mary Elizabeth Luter, and his first wife, Margaret Trest Luter. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Luter of Ocean Springs, MS., daughter, Jean Stout (Dan), grandson, Daniel Stout all of Boca Raton, FL., stepdaughter, Jerilyn Henry (Wayne), step-grandchildren, David Wilson, Jr., Cammie Balius, Carrie Graetz, and numerous great-grandchildren. On Tuesday, February 21, 2006, there will be an 11 AM graveside service in the Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, P.O.
