John Patrick "Pat" Starr

John Patrick “Pat" Starr of Gulfport died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 65. Born in Gulfport, Pat graduated from Gulfport High School, obtained a BA from Mississippi State University and attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Pat was a lifelong bachelor. He had enthusiastic interests in music, history, politics and science and he especially enjoyed playing guitar. Pat loved his family and was a devoted caregiver to his mother during her last years. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. W H Starr and Bobette Starr; grandparents, Robert L. and Rosa Rice; brothers, Bill Starr and Cary Starr; and sister, Sandra Starr. Pat is survived by his sister, Sheree Starr and brother-in-law Stefan Massong of Ocean Springs; nieces Stephanie Starr Valentine and Molly Wallace; nephews James Starr and Billy Starr; sister-in-law, Darlene Starr and numerous cousins. A private memorial for friends and family will be held on Sunday, March 12th. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation in Pat’s name may be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501 or Meals on Wheels America.
