Mr. John Vonderhaar, 63, of Biloxi, MS, died Saturday, November 13, 2010, in Biloxi.
Mr. Vonderhaar was born in Kansas City, MO and grew up in Biloxi. He spent many years working and residing in New Orleans, LA and Tunica, MS. He returned to the Coast in 2001. He was a graduate of Biloxi High School and attended the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. He was a loyal member of Biloxi Elks Lodge #606 and volunteered as a reading mentor at Bayou View Elementary School. He retired from the casino industry following Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Vonderhaar was preceded in death by his parents, Karl J. and Arlene Vonderhaar, and a sister, Alexia Huggins. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Whitney Vonderhaar of New Orleans, LA.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital Gulfport for the care and attention they provided. A special thanks is extended to the many family friends who accompanied him to his cancer treatments and to his caregiver, Cynthia Acosta.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Our Lady of Fatima Bereavement Society, 2090 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS 39531.
The funeral service will be 6 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pass Road, in Biloxi where friends may visit from 4 p.m. until service time. Family and friends are invited to the Biloxi Elks Lodge following the service Monday Evening.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Southern Memorial Park.
