John Riley Young

John Riley Young, 87, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Ocean Springs.

Mr. Young was born on October 14, 1936 in Oxford, KS to Harold and Dora Bowman Young and graduated from Oxford High School in 1954. Following high school and community college, John worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS. He later moved to the Gulf Coast to work as a Systems Analyst for NASA in Slidell, LA and later for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. He finished his career for Northern Electric and Moran Brothers, both in Laurel, MS. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and dancing. Mr. Young was an avid sports fan and in particular, a diehard New Orleans Saints fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcie Young; his parents; and his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Karen Young.

Mr. Young’s survivors include his sons Jeff Young of Biloxi, MS and Lee Young of Ocean Springs, MS; his first wife, Barbara Young of Biloxi, MS; his grandchildren, Brandon (Paige) Young of Madisonville, LA, Mallory Young of Austin, TX and Griffin Young of New Orleans, LA; four great-grandchildren; his brother, David (Carolyn) Young of Mulvane, KS; and his nieces and nephew, Justina (Dan) Metz of Oxford, KS, Hannah (Cheyden) McClellan of Mulvane, KS and Ethan (Kelsie) Young of Wichita, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in Mr. Young’s memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation @ wish.org/donate 

Funeral Services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Fellowship will follow services at Ground Zero Blues Club.
