We sadly announce the passing of Johnny Mack Wilkerson, 72, of Biloxi, MS.
Johnny passed away on July 24, 2021, after suffering from Parkinson’s disease and kidney failure. He resided at Pass Christian Rehab Center, where he received exceptional care.
Johnny was born on June 7, 1949 to Annie Richard Wilkerson and Benjamin Joseph Wilkerson. He was of Catholic denomination. Johnny was a gentle soul; friendly, polite, and a joy to be around. Friends will remember him always laughing and joking. He attended Biloxi Schools and proudly declared he was from ‘The Point’. He worked in the Seafood Industry in his early years. He worked at the ‘Surf Bowl’ and ‘Beach Bowl’ bowling alleys, he worked delivering beer for Budweiser, as a security guard at Gabriel Manor, as a car detailer, and as a groundman for the Byrd’s of Biloxi.
Johnny lived a full and vibrant life with more friends than one could count. Everywhere he’d go, somebody would say, “Hey! Uncle Johnny!” His nephews and nieces meant so much to him and had many “friend-girls” as well. Everybody enjoyed hanging out “at the unks” on Popps Ferry Bay. Johnny enjoyed jamming out to “Journey” on Friday evenings while his brother, Eddie, was out supporting high school ball games. Also, on Friday nights, he never missed a call from his niece, Joan, in Walla Walla, WA. Johnny was a Saints football fan. Occasionally, he enjoyed attending a Biloxi Shuckers Baseball game. When Johnny retired from lawn care, he devoted his time to relaxing at home, watching reruns on classic TV, as well as putting puzzles together. He especially loved hanging out, entertaining and just talking on the front porch.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Ben Wilkerson; brothers, Jimmy and Eddie Wilkerson; and sisters, Josephine Wilkerson and Ida Mae Simmons. He is survived by three sisters: Frances Cutten (Bill), Lois Phelps and Dean Oliver.
Johnny will rest beside his family at Biloxi Cemetery North. A graveside ‘celebration of life service’ will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 5PM. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to join in celebrating the life of a beautiful soul who will be greatly missed.
The family thanks the staff of Pass Christian Rehab Center for caring for Johnny in his final days. The family also sends thanks to the staff of Bradford-O' Keefe Funeral Home for their services.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Johnny Mack Wilkerson.
