Joseph A. Pavich (Joe) 78, of Metairie, La passed away Friday, April 24, 2009. Joe was born January 10, 1931 in Biloxi, Mississippi and graduated from Biloxi High School, the Class of 1947. He attended Perkinston Junior College and The University of Mississippi, (Ole Miss), prior to joining the U.S. Coast Guard in the early fifties. After Joe finished his training in California, he was stationed in New Orleans, LA and remained in New Orleans and Metairie until he passed away. Joe loved to travel and was a tour guide for many years. He also volunteered at the 1850 House in the French Quarters, as well as the Cabildo. Joe was a member of the Krewe of Pegasus Carnival Association for many years and became King in 1970. Joe received his B.A. and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education in 1956 and his Education Administration in 1961, all from Tulane University. He later continued his education in art and the visually impaired, he was proficient in Braille, reading and writing. Joe started his career in education in 1953 with the New Orleans School District, as classroom teacher in elementary and Junior High schools, then became principal for 18 years. He later became a teacher of the visually impaired, (blind and partially sighted) in Jefferson Parish, LA, as well as in Charleston County School Systems in Charleston, SC. His last years of teaching was at Christian Brothers School, in which he retired in 2000. Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. Steve Pavich and Mrs. Laurence Thibodeaux Pavich, his brother-in-law, Donald F. Doyle, Jr. and his oldest nephew, Steven Doyle. Survivors include his sister, Marie Pavich Doyle of Biloxi, Ms; Mr. James Buck, a long time friend and caregiver; nephew Joe Doyle and wife, Joann Doyle of Biloxi, Ms; Don (Donnie) Doyle of Ocean Springs, Ms; niece, Lydia Doyle Costa and husband, Greg Costa of San Angelo, Tx; niece, Pamela (Pam) Doyle of Biloxi, Ms; great nephew, Jonathan Doyle and Christina Carroll, 3 great nieces, Tamara, Taylor and Blair Doyle all of Biloxi, Ms, numerous relatives and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, May 9, 2009, 11:00 a.m., St. Michael Catholic Church, Hwy 90, E. Beach, Biloxi, MS where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at the Biloxi City Cemetery, Biloxi, MS.
