Mr. Joseph "Chibby" Skrnich, 93, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Biloxi V A Nursing Home. Mr. Skrnich was a lifelong resident of Biloxi and a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. He lived on Point Cadet his entire life and was well known in the fishing community. Mr. Skrnich was a WW II Army Veteran and proudly served his country during the Normandy Campaign. He was a Purple Heart recipient and held other awards and distinctions of valor in service to his country. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #38, Biloxi. Mr. Skrnich was preceded in death by his parents, John Skrnich and Antonia Kuljis Skrnich; four brothers, Thomas Skrnich, John Skrnich, Jr., Michael Skrnich and Samuel Skrnich; and two sisters, Margaret Skrnich and Clara Cosmich. He is survived by three sisters all of Biloxi, Frances Mason, Lucritcha Broussard, and his beloved sister, Dolores Sonnier, with whom he lived after Hurricane Katrina and until his death at the V A; 14 nieces, 17 nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Biloxi V A Medical Center for the care they provided Mr. Skrnich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
