Joseph H. D’Angelo, age 89, of Gulfport died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in Gulfport.
He attended Gulfport City Schools, graduated from Perkinston High School and Perkinston Junior College where his time there were wonderful years for him and he attended University of Southern Mississippi. He finished U.S. Maritime School, St. Petersburg, FL. Mr. D’Angelo was the Athletic Director for the USAF at Keesler AFB and also worked as Recreation Director for Harrison County. He was proudest of being a member of the United States Navy aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin BB 64 during World War II. His greatest years were with his wife Clarice and their children and he felt that Clarice was God’s gift to him and the family.
Joe was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the following organizations: Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, MS Gulf Coast Alumni, Perksters, Gravelin Society, Italian American Society, USS Battleship Wisconsin Association, Old Mobile Society, MS Coast Historical and Genealogical Society. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of MS Gulf Coast Community College, The National Board of Junior Colleges, and The National Executive Committee of AMVETS.
Mr. D’Angelo was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice Wilson D’Angelo; a daughter, Theresa E. D’Angelo Ladner; his parents, Pauline Viola Cox and Charles Bartolomeo D’Angelo; brothers, Charles Totsy, Paul Benny, Woodrow W., Leon J., Charles J., Dewey E., and Roger K. D’Angelo; sisters, Lucille M. Howard, Anna May Robinson, Rosalie L. Van Court; grandchildren, Wilson Vanis Hedrick, and Toni Marie D’Angelo.
He is survived by daughter, Karen E. D’Angelo Carter (Harold) and Mary A. D’Angelo Hedrick (Jim); sons, Joseph M. D’Angelo (Terry), Christopher D. D’Angelo (Karen), and Thomas E. D’Angelo (Kathy); son-in-law, Larry Ladner; grandchildren, Harold L. Carter, Jr., Joseph M. D’Angelo (Mikey), Charles R. D’Angelo (Robby), John A. D’Angelo (Anthony) Joseph F. Carter (Jeff), Mary C. Carter (Katie), Jesse B. Carter (Bo), Melissa A. Ladner, Joseph K. Ladner (Kyle), James J. Hedrick (J.J.), Elizabeth Hall (Lisa), Christopher R. D’Angelo, Ashley M. D’Angelo, Cally E. D’Angelo, Olivia M. D’Angelo, Thomas N. D’Angelo (Nolan), Kyler Simon Hedrick; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
