Joseph Edward "Popsi" Worsley, age 85, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2006 at home in Ocean Springs surrounded by family. Popsi was the beloved husband of Elaine Worsley "Mamie" for 64 wonderful years. Popsi was born in Rosa, AR on 8/10/21 and graduated from Arkansas State with a degree in Agricultural Business. After graduating, he served in the US military as a First Lieutenant. He and Elaine moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1950 where he enjoyed square dancing, initiated Indian Guides (a father/son organization), was an avid tennis player, sports fan and enjoyed writing poetry. He was also a chairman of Sunset Homes, a non-profit agency. As a lifelong Methodist, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Phoenix, AZ where he served as a lay minister and held many leadership positions through the years. He and Elaine moved to Ocean Springs four years ago so that they could be devoted grandparents and great-grandparents. After arriving here, they became members of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Margaret Worsley; his brother, H.P. Worsley; his sister, Margarite Jackson-Waldman; his son, Joseph Worsley and his granddaughter, Erin Hudlow.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Worsley; his daughters, Shan Hudlow of Ocean Springs and Teresa Gubanich of Reno, NV; his grandchildren, Heather Flathau of Hattiesburg, MS, Heidi St. Amant of Ocean Springs, Jesse Cook of Reno, NV, Amber Cook of San Ramon, CA and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in downtown Ocean Springs. A memorial service will follow at 5:30 p.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, please spend the day with your family, Popsi would have liked that.
