Mr. Joseph F. Tinney, Jr., age 79, of Ocean Springs, MS died Thursday, March 4, 2010, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Tinney was born in Baton Rouge, LA on September 11, 1930. He graduated from LSU in 1951 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and proudly served his country for 28 years in the United States Air Force Reserve. He was a long time resident of Houston, Texas, having worked for 40 years for Ethyl Corp, retiring as Maintenance Superintendent. Mr. Tinney moved to Ocean Springs after retiring in 1993. He was a member of the International Maintenance Institute, a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Ocean Springs Rotary Club, the Historic Ocean Springs Association (HOSA), and the Walter Anderson Museum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Freda R. Tinney and his wife, Winifred Winkle Tinney.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Jean L. Griffies of Ocean Springs, MS., two sons, Joseph "Skip" Tinney of Austin, TX and David Tinney and wife, Suzie, of Shreveport, LA., daughter, Mary Ann Stratemeier and husband, John, of Houston, TX and grandson, Sean Michael Tinney.
On Monday, March 8, 2010, there will be a 3:30 PM Memorial Mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, where friends may call from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM. Interment will be in Forest Park East Cemetery in Houston, TX.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
