Joseph Malcolm Lamas

Joseph Lamas, 91, was reunited with the love of his life, Frances on Monday, December 19, 2016 and eternally rests peacefully with our Lord. Born in 1925, Joe was a lifelong native of Biloxi. He proudly served his country joining the Navy and he was on a mine sweeper in the Pacific Ocean. Downtown with a buddy in 1948, his eyes caught a girl walking across the street. Although he did not know her, he told his friend that he was going to marry her. There began a love story that spanned 68 years. Acquiring material possessions were never important to Joe. However, hunting and fishing were his passion. His sons, Gary and Glen, will cherish countless memories growing up with a string of specs or an eight point buck in the back of their truck as Joe smiled with pride. His legacy will surely continue with them. The love and faithfulness to his wife was ever present to all who knew him. In recent years, his devoted care toward Frances was nothing shy of true unconditional love. Her passing, only three months ago, left him with a shattered heart. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Misko Lamas; parents, Joseph (Dinker) Lamas and Gladys; brother, Jack; and sisters, Althea Taconi and Melanie Lamas. He is survived by his three children, Gary (Teena), Glen, and Diane (Gary) Lawson; four grandchildren, Brandye (Chris) Staton, Lyndsey (Dalton) Miller, Chad (Ashleigh) Lamas and Shay Lawson; four great-grandchildren; and his only living sibling, sister, Marie Saucier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10am. Visitation will begin one hour prior to mass. Interment will follow mass at the Biloxi National Cemetery (VA). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul, c/o our Lady of Fatima, 2090 Pass Rd., Biloxi, MS, 39531. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
