Joseph Clarence McClammy of Gulfport, Mississippi passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Mr. McClammy, born July 18, 1934, was a native of Atmore, Alabama, and was raised in Mobile. He had been a resident of Gulfport since 1963. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Scrap Iron Sunday School Class in Gulfport.
Mr. McClammy attended Auburn University and the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. He was a graduate of the Public Utility Management School at Agnes Scott College. Further studies were at the New York Institute of Finance. Mr. McClammy retired as Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors of Mississippi Power Company where he was employed for 32 years. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Sargeant.
Mr. McClammy was a member of the Auburn University Alumni Association, Auburn University Foy Society, Auburn University Foundation Honor Club, University of South Mississippi Alumni Association, USM Eagle Club, USM Foundation Honor Club, USM Aubrey K. Lucas Society, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Friends of Beauvoir, National Rifle Association, and supporter of the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
He was a long-time member of the corporation of Methodist Senior Services in Tupelo, a member of its Investment Committee, and past member of the board and chairman of the Methodist Seashore Highlands in Gulfport. He was also a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club and was elected to the Civil Service Commission for the City of Gulfport for 21 years serving several terms as chairman.
In the past, Mr. McClammy was on the board of directors of the United Way for South Mississippi where he was chairman of the Allocations Committee, and chairman and board member of the Association for Retarded Citizens in Harrison County. He was past chairman of the Legal and Claims Committee of the Southeastern Electric Exchange, past member of the Edison Electic Institute Claims Committee, and the Electric Utility Coordinating Task Force for the National Electric Safety Code. Past memberships were also held in the American Association of Corporate Secretaries, National Association of Corporate Directors, Association of Internal Management Consultants and the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
As a Red Cross donor, Mr. McClammy had over 50 apheresis in addition to considerable whole blood donation. The apheresis donations were used primarily for cancer patients.
Mr. McClammy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Louise Key McClammy of Meridian; his parents, N. Clarence and Nola McClammy of Mobile; and a brother, Carl W. McClammy of Theodore.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Key and Angela McClammy of Gulfport, and Joseph Scott and Regine McClammy of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Bricker (Brian) of Pass Christian, MS, Austin Holder (Brennan) of New Orleans, LA and Benny McClammy of Augusta, GA; and one great-granddaughter, Frankie Holder of New Orleans.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, January 13, 2025 with service at 11:00 AM at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, where friends may call at 10:00 AM.
The family prefers memorials to the children’s ministry of First Baptist Church of Gulfport, 2190 Highway 605, Gulfport, MS 39503 or the USM Foundation, 118 College Drive #5210, Hattiesburg, MS 39406 for the benefit of the Mary Louise Key McClammy Memorial Scholarship.
