Joseph Paul McManus

Joseph Paul “Joe” McManus, Ph.D., 79, of Biloxi, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Joe was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 16, 1943 to parents, Henry and Mary McManus. He received his Undergraduate Degree from Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, and he continued his studies at the University of Cincinnati earning his Ph.D. in Chemistry. Joe was a resident of Prospect, CT for 40 years, and he worked as a research chemist at Uniroyal Chemical Company in Naugatuck, CT. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Joe loved planting flowers for his family and friends and sharing the vegetables he grew in his many gardens. He received multiple awards from the Edgewater Neighborhood Association for the ‘Yard of the Month’. He was an avid reader, golfer, tennis player, and traveler.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary McManus; and siblings, James McManus, Joan McManus; and a special cousin, Billy McManus.

Survivors include his adored wife of 52 years, Amy T. McManus of Biloxi, MS; son, Daniel Paul McManus (Sofya) of Saint Louis City, MO; siblings, Hank McManus of Shelter Island, NY, Mary McCarthy of Abington, MA, Phyllis Hayes of Canton, MA; and dog, Gronk. He was a beloved “Papa Joe” to his granddaughter, Galina Mae McManus of Saint Louis City, MO and “Uncle Joe” to 21 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church St. Vincent De Paul Society.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the incredible staff at Merit Health Biloxi ICU Unit and the neighbors on Lakeview Boulevard.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS. Friends may visit one hour before.

A memorial Mass at Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston, MA will be held this summer.  Please check back at a later date for those service details.
