Joseph S. Rogers, 79, of Vancleave, MS died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. Mr. Rogers was a native of Vancleave, MS. He served in the US Navy from 1950 thru 1954 and was discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He worked for Greyhound from 1960 until 1969 as a driver. He also owned his own contracting business, Rogers Building Service, which kept him busy up until the time of his death. He was a member of the D'Iberville Community Club and was King in 1986. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in D'Iberville. He was one of the founders of the North Bay Mardi Gras Association and was the 1st King in 1998 with his wife reining as Queen. Mr. Rogers enjoyed spending time with his family and was the person who was always behind the camera. Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by his parents, George F., Sr. and Della M. Colson Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane L. Rogers of Vancleave; two daughters, Joannie L. (Mike) Smith of Vicksburg, Susan E. (Randy) Church of Vancleave; four sons, Gerald E. Rogers of Vancleave, Willie J. (Jerri) Rogers of Ocean Springs, Stephen W. (Mary) Rogers of Vancleave, Bruce J. Rogers of Ocean Springs; one sister, Shirley J. (Dalton) Richard of Ocean Springs; three brothers, George F. Rogers, Jr. of Saucier, Kenneth E. Rogers of Pensacola, FL, Jimmie A. Rogers of Saucier; thirteen grandchildren, Joey, Timmy, Christina, Sindi, Lanette, Misty, Billy Jo, Stephanie, Amy, Robby, Chantel, Cody and Nicholas and six great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the Vancleave United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Friends may visit one hour prior to service time. Commital Service will be on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 9:00 am at the Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to: Vancleave United Methodist Church, 13620 Hwy 57, Vancleave, MS 39565.
