Joseph Roy Scott, age 80, of Pass Christian, Mississippi passed away March 9, 2020. Joseph attended Lawton (Oklahoma) High School; Winston R-VI (Missouri) High School; University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri; University of Rhode Island, Wakefield, Rhode Island; Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma; College of Lake County, Grayslake, Illinois; and University of Southern Mississippi, Gulf Coast, Long Beach, Mississippi. He served as Senior Chief Equipment Operator, USN, Retired from the United States Navy. Joseph worked for the United States Navy, Aviation Ordinanceman, Airman 1957-1961; Elm Hills Angus Farm, Winston, Missouri, Herd Manager 1961-1965; U.S Navy Seabees, Retired as Senior Chief Equipment Operator 1967-1984; South Mississippi Regional Center, Long Beach, Mississippi, Retired as Director of Physical Plant Properties 1984-2000; Eleven Oaks Forge, Pass Christian, Mississippi, as Artist Blacksmith, 2000-March 9, 2020. Joseph received the following awards: Daniel E. Byron Award to the Atlantic Fleet Seabee of the Year, 1970, CBC Davisville, Rhode Island; and Meritorious Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious achievement while participating in Exercise AHAUS TARA II in Honduras, August 19 – November 26, 1983. His hobbies included: Baseball, Fast and Slow Pitch Softball 1945-1982; Mowing, Gardening, Planting, Weeding, Harvesting 1961-2020; Square Dancing 1990-2000; Leather Tooling 1990-2005; Brewing Beer 1998-2005; Travel (besides Navy) 2000-2020; Artist Blacksmith – Smithing and Teaching 2000-2020; and Beekeeping 2009-2020. Joseph’s Associations included: Navy Seabee Veterans of America, charter member of Island X-1, Gulfport, Mississippi; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eddie Blake Post 3937, Long Beach, Mississippi; Southern Star Lodge No. 500, F&M., Long Beach, Mississippi; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Gulfport, Mississippi; Junior Warden, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Long Beach, Mississippi; Junior Warden, St. Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, Gulfport, Mississippi; and Member and Caregiver, The Nourishing Place, Gulfport, Mississippi. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond V. and Agnes Slatten Scott of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann Wright Scott, Resident of Pass Christian, Mississippi; his children, Jo Ann Scott, resident of San Jose, California; Jon Sidney Scott, resident of Pass Christian, Mississippi, Jennifer Susan Scott Meister (Ronald K), resident of Brookhaven, Mississippi; his sister, Shirley Ray Scott Pace, resident of Lawton, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Erann Jordan Bulman Schmitt (Anthony J.), resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, Sarah Alexandra Meister Grigsby (Jordan J.), resident of Dallas, Texas, Nicole Elaine Andrade Boda (Kevin M.), resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Griffin Scott Meister, resident of Oxford, Mississippi, Kyle Sidney Scott, resident of New York, New York, Emily Jean Scott Blachura (Brenden E.), resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his great grandchildren, Brody Michael Boda, resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Tucker O’Neill Boda, resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Odarin Wright Grigsby, resident of Dallas, Texas, Adalyn Nicole Blachura, resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joseephine Sydney Boda, resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jack Edward Blachura, resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Interment will be held at a later date at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi, MS 39531.
