Joseph Angelo Thompson, Jr. “Big Joe”, age 74 of D’Iberville, MS, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020, at Ocean Springs Hospital.
Big Joe was born on October 22, 1945, and was a native of Biloxi, MS and a longtime resident of D’Iberville, MS. He graduated from the University of Google and YouTube. He was a Co-Founder of the Biloxi Boys & Girls Club, was a past President of the N. Biloxi Jaycee’s, was named the Outstanding Young Man of North Biloxi at the North Biloxi Jaycee Annual Distinguished Service Awards Banquet in 1976. He was also a past Councilman at large in North Biloxi where he chaired a number of civic projects in the North Biloxi area. He was the owner of Joe Thompson & Sons Paint Contractors and J.R.’s Lounge on Desoto St.
Joseph Thompson was very loved and respected by the community and all who knew him. He was a patriot of our great country and an avid Trump Supporter. He loved to cook, spend time with his children, friends, and his little dog Buster who was his world.
We Pray that all who knew him and called him a friend, knows that they in return meant the world to him. Thank you to John Taylor, Patricia Braden, and Andy Duncan who held a very special place in his heart. We were so blessed to call him our Daddy and know that this is not goodbye and that we will all be together in Heaven one day. Thank you to everyone that has been so supportive to us (his children) during this heart-wrenching time. May God’s blessing shine on you all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Thompson Sr. and Ernestine M. Thompson; spouse, Vickie Belinda Thompson; and sibling, Brenda Dale Gollott.
He was survived by his children: Deborah K. Wright (Larry Wright), Sandra Dale Owens, Tracie M. Tate, Josette M. Watkins (Richard Watkins), and Joseph A. Thomson III; grandchildren: Donald L. Hoyt, Krystal Jameson, Donald R. Pate, Daniel Pate, Jacob Perez, Casi C. Casiano, James Tate, Charles Owens, Nathan Clements, Kayla Casiano, Alana Barber, and Skylar Casiano; great grandchildren: Anthony Jameson, Kaydance Jameson, Guy Jameson, Izzy Hoyt, Lyci Hoyt, Mason Pate, Trinity P. Pate, Madisyn R. Pate, Aubrey Rose Pate, McKenna Pate, Angelina Josette Arrieta, and Maddox Fraiser; siblings: Juanita Eide and Suzanne Garcia; and his dog, Little Man - Buster Thompson.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of South MS at 2615 25th Ave. Gulfport, MS 39501.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 pm - 9 pm (there be a eulogy reading that will begin at 4 pm) on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at J.R.’s Lounge, 1038 Desoto St. Biloxi, MS.
