Mrs. Josephine Eugenia Wingfield Beck, age 96, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Monday, July 11, 2005, in Ocean Springs, MS.
Mrs. Beck was born on April 26, 1909, in Jackson, MS., to Oscar Houseworth Wingfield and Josephine Crisler Wingfield. She married Ross Hamilton Beck, Sr., in 1934. She and her husband moved to the Villa Maria Apartments in Ocean Springs in 1985 where she lived until 2003. Since then she has resided at the Ocean Springs Nursing Center. Mrs Beck was a graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson and taught for many years in the Jackson, MS., school system. She was a lifelong member of Capitol Street United Methodist Church in Jackson and in later years a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs where she was active in the United Methodist Women. Whether she was known as Mrs. Beck, Josephine, Mama, Grandma or just Jo, she never met a stranger and was loved and cherished by her family and friends to the end.
Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Ross H. Beck, Sr. She is survived by her sons, Ross H. Beck, Jr. and wife, Blanche, of Gulfport, MS., Oscar W. Beck and wife, Jeane, of Ocean Springs, and David B. Beck and wife, Pamela, of Braxton, MS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 14, 2005, from 4-6 PM, with a 6 PM chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Friday, July 15, 2005, there will be a 1 PM graveside service at the Cedarlawn Cemetery in Jackson, MS.
