Judy Schultz Broussard was born on February 10, 1940 on the Point in Biloxi, Mississippi, the daughter of Thomas James Schultz and Ophelia Quigley Schultz. Being born a fisherman's daughter, the love of the Gulf was deeply engraved in her soul. She always fought for Biloxi and its heritage. After a strong battle, she was welcomed to Heaven on March 14, 2023 by her loved ones who were waiting for her.
She graduated from Biloxi High in 1958 and married Julius Broussard shortly after graduation. Over the next decade their family grew by five children. Judy was not just a mother to those five, she also mothered numerous nieces and nephews whenever they were in need. Through feast and famine, Judy did what she had learned from her parents, love as much as you can, treat people fairly, and make do with what you have.
Her working life had seen many phases of growth in Biloxi. Judy was unashamed to have worked in seafood factories. She was on the original committee that raised funds for the Seafood Industry Museum, spending many days doing numerous fundraisers. If you wanted to see her fight, all you had to do was talk disrespectful about the Point and its fishermen. Judy also worked for the G.E.D. program for Biloxi Public Schools and was very proud of the job she did as well as the people she helped. She worked for the City of Biloxi under three administrations serving in various capacities before her retirement in 2012. She worked at Community Development helping Biloxi grow into what it is today. Judy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. During her life she was a vital part of many groups helping those in need, including being a member of the Biloxi Ladies Auxiliary. After retirement, she was a member of Biloxi Lighthouse Quilters, Picayune Piecemakers, and the Gulf States Quilters Association. She spent her free time cultivating friendships, enjoying retirement, and sewing. Everyone who met her loved her no matter the length of acquaintance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Broussard; her parents, Thomas James Schultz and Ophelia Quigley Schultz.; her brother, Thomas Schultz; and her sister, Patricia Rachuba.
She is survived by her children, Julie (Ronnie) Suarez, Joetta (Bill) Burgamy, Julius Broussard, Julian (Marybeth) Broussard, and Patrick (Rachel) Broussard. She is also survived by her grandchildren, the loves of her life, Christian, E. W., Brandon, Shannon, Sarah, Gia, Jacob, Joshua and Savannah; and her great grandchildren, Tristan, Braddox, Ronin, Harper, Blakely, and Piper. There are also many, many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. Last but not least, she is survived by her precious dog, Schultzy, who was her constant friend and companion and is grieving as bad as the rest of the family.
A visitation will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Biloxi on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 9:30-11:00 with a Mass being held in her honor at 11:00am. A Celebration of her life will be held in the Parrish Hall at St. Michael immediately following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Michael Altar Society or the St. Michael St. Vincent de Paul Society or any charity of your choice.
