Julia Poole Matheny

Julia Poole Matheny, 67, of Ellisville died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Hattiesburg. She was born in Columbia and was a former resident of Gulfport, Lexington, KY and Long Beach before moving to Ellisville following Hurricane Katrina. She was a graduate of Gulfport High School and of Millsaps College. She was Presbyterian and was a former school teacher and member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was an avid fan of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball. Mrs. Matheny was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James L. Matheny; her parents, Harold and Priscilla Poole; and a brother, Harold Thomas Poole. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ellen Hayes and husband, Robert of Ellisville; a brother, Edgar Ray Poole of Pass Christian; a brother-in-law, Burt Matheny; nieces, Rebecca Murphy, Amanda Poole, and Kathryn Nutter; nephews, Timothy Hayes, John Poole, and James L. Matheny; great-nieces, Brennan Murphy, Hailie Poole; great-nephews, Tanner Murphy, Jacob Hayes, Charlie Nutter, and Lehman Matheny; and two family friends, Judy Hathcock and Janell Ainsworth. The funeral service is Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the service.
