Mr. Julius William Chastant, age 81, of Ocean Springs, MS., passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011, in Moss Point, MS.
J.W.(Chet,T-Bone,Jules, Jake) was born on November 6, 1929, to the late Julius Harvey and Mary Krebs Chastant. He was an avid fisherman and loved his Big Band Music; (let's not forget Jeopardy). He was a graduate of Our Lady of Victories High School in Pascagoula. He served on the USCG C. Cambell W-32 from 1948-1952, and while stationed in New York met the love of his life, Joan Veronica Anderson. They wed on June 12, 1954, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Forest Hills, NY. He retired at the age of 67 from Maxmar Controls and returned to his beloved homeland on the Gulf Coast. He was an active member of American Legion Post #160 and the Knights of Columbus Council 9094.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sr. M. Lucretia (Francis Ione Chastant), and nephew, James Guice.
Survivors include his ever loving and caring wife, Joan Anderson Chastant, sister, Mary Louise Morgan, four sons, Paul Evalture, Quinn William, Pierre Armant and Andrew Jude, four grandchildren, Kathryn Aileen, Michael Alexander, Patrick Andrew and Daniel Alexander, a niece, Patricia (Lou) McDermott and many other relatives.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from 10 am until 11:30 am, with an 11:30 am chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN., 38105.
