Kathleen Malpass Smith, age 78, was born August 2, 1946 in Cambridge, MA and passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024 in Biloxi, MS.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith; her parents, Jesse and Margaret Malpass; and her brother, Robert L. Malpass.
Kathleen is survived by her sisters, Mary McQuade of Ave Maria, FL and Ann Blessing of Clarksville, TN; her brother, John (Jack) Malpass of Tomball, TX; eight nieces and nephews and their spouses and their twenty-eight children; and her step-son and his wife, Brad and Maggie Smith of Aurora, CO.
Kathleen attended the Mississippi University for Women where she earned a master’s degree in Home Economics. After Kathleen graduated from the W (Mississippi University for Women), she taught in the Biloxi City School System. She taught Home Economics for two years at Nichols Jr. High School. She then continued her teaching career at Biloxi High School where she also taught Home Economics and then took on the challenge of being a math teacher at Biloxi High. She retired from teaching after 23 years. Kathleen was on the board of the Biloxi Teachers Federal Credit Union. She also worked for attorney William Denton’s Law Firm after her retirement. Kathleen enjoyed baking, reading, solving Crossword & Jig Saw puzzles and she especially enjoyed Sudoku puzzles. She also loved watching Wheel of Fortune and her favorite show, CSI. She took pleasure in watching several of the CSI spin-offs.
Kathleen had a deep faith in God and she cherished her Catholic faith. She was a parishioner Of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was a member of the bereavement committee. Kathleen also volunteered for many other church related activities. That is where she met Bill and started their loving relationship.
Thank you to the current and former staff at the Brookdale Biloxi Senior Living Community for the assistance and care they provided for Kathleen the past four years and eight months. The family and friends would also like to thank The Notre Dame Hospice of Mississippi Care Team for the compassionate care they provided; and a special thank you to Ann Mac Leod and Fr. Satish Adhav for their friendship and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2090 Pass Rd, Biloxi, MS on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11 am with visitation starting at 10 am. A reception will follow at the Our Lady of Fatima Parish Hall.
