Kathryn Amelia Dowdy (Kay) Reagan, age 91, and resident of Long Beach since 1960, died on February 18, 2011. She was born on December 19, 1919 in Springfield, Missouri, and spent her early years in Oklahoma City.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, John James Dowdy and Maud Jackson Dowdy, and her brother Homer Dowdy all of Oklahoma City.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Otis Douglas Reagan, son Ronald (Lucy), daughters Nancy (Garry) Ruff and Rebecca (Davis) Hutto, all of Long Beach; her sister, Elizabeth Vernon, Enid, Oklahoma,seven grandchildren: Steven and Jacob Reagan ;
Charles and Brian Head; and Cory, Eric and Amelia Hutto; and two nephews and a niece.
Kay was a member of Long Beach United Presbyterian Church where she had served as a deacon and as the church secretary. In recent years, she attended Pineville Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker, and later a secretary at USM-Gulf Park when her children were grown. She was, at one time, a Long Beach city election commissioner.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 21, at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, in Long Beach, where friends may call in the Christian Life Center one hour prior to the service. Burial will occur at a later date in the Long Beach City Cemetery.
The family thanks doctors Cyril V. K. Bethala and Purushottam Pande and their staffs, Odyssey Hospice, and caregivers Patricia Buckley and Lucresia Gilkey for caring for their mother during her illness. Kay asked that flowers not be given. As an expression of your appreciation for Kay's life, her family asks that you perform a random act of kindness in her memory.
